π How to play
Hearts rules
Dodge every heart and the dreaded Queen of Spades⦠or take them all.
- Players
- 3β6
- Time
- 20β40 min
- You need
- Standard playing cards
The goal
Take as few penalty points as you can. When someone reaches the target (usually 100), the player with the lowest score wins.
How a hand works
- 1
Deal and pass
With 4 players, deal 13 cards each. Pass three cards β left on hand 1, right on hand 2, across on hand 3, no pass on hand 4, then repeat.
- 2
2β£ leads
Whoever holds the 2 of Clubs leads it to the first trick.
- 3
Follow suit
You must play the suit that was led if you can. If you can't, play anything β this is how hearts and the Queen get dumped. Highest card of the led suit wins the trick and leads next.
- 4
Breaking hearts
You can't lead a heart until a heart has been played on an earlier trick (unless you hold only hearts). Most tables also ban points on the very first trick.
- 5
Shoot the moon
Take every heart and the Queen of Spades and you score 0 β every other player takes 26.
Penalty points
- Each heart1
- Queen of Spades13
- Shooting the moonYou 0 Β· others 26
Every hand totals 26 points. Roundfello checks they add up and has a one-tap Moon button.
A hand's points
- 1.Leo took 5 hearts β 5.
- 2.Mia took the Queen of Spades and 3 hearts β 16.
- 3.Ava took 5 hearts β 5. Noah took none β 0. Total 26.
Winning tips
- Pass the Queen, Ace and King of Spades if you have few spades.
- Get rid of a whole suit so you can dump points.
- If someone's taking every heart, keep one to stop the moon.
Popular house rules
- 3 players: remove the 2β¦ and deal 17 each. 5 players: remove 2β¦ and 2β£. 6 players: remove 2β¦, 2β£, 3β¦ and 3β£ β the lowest club leads.
- Jack of Diamonds: some tables count it as β10.
- Shoot the moon option: the shooter may subtract 26 from their own score instead.
