Phase 10 rules
Everything you need for game night: the 10 phases, how a hand works, and how to add up the points.
The goal
Be the first player to complete all 10 phases. Phases go in order, and you can work on only one phase per hand. If two or more players finish Phase 10 in the same hand, the one with the lowest total score wins.
The 10 phases
- 1Two sets of three
- 2One set of three and one run of four
- 3One set of four and one run of four
- 4One run of seven
- 5One run of eight
- 6One run of nine
- 7Two sets of four
- 8Seven cards of one colour
- 9One set of five and one set of two
- 10One set of five and one set of three
Set: cards of the same number, any colours. Run: cards in number order, any colours. Colour: cards all of one colour, any numbers.
How a hand works
Each player gets 10 cards. On your turn, draw one card (from the deck or the discard pile), then discard one.
Once you hold your whole phase, lay it down on the table. After that you may "hit" — add matching cards to your own or other players' laid-down phases.
The hand ends when one player gets rid of all their cards (going out). Everyone who laid down their phase moves on to the next phase. Everyone else tries the same phase again next hand.
Wild and Skip cards
Wild cards stand in for any number or colour in a phase. Skip cards make another player lose their next turn; they can't be used in a phase.
Scoring a hand
When the hand ends, every player except the one who went out adds up the cards left in their hand. Lower is better.
Example: three cards from 1–9, two 10s, a Skip and a Wild = 15 + 20 + 15 + 25 = 75 points.
